These ratings don't allow for n/a (not applicable) or "don't know," and that makes it tricky to rate things like cost when there are insurance factors to consider, because the cost may not relate to the dentist at all if your insurance is covering a procedure or determining your co-pay. Anyway, in my experience with Dr. Rothenberg, I was always examined and treated by the hygienist, but the Dr. himself did not check me most visits. When I went to another dentist due to a change in my insurance that had a much smaller network of dentists, tooth decay was discovered that was not found by Dr. Rothenberg. Now, if I had gone back and paid for the additional x-rays that I was supposed to do, then maybe he would have found the decay that now needs two crowns and a filling, but his hygienist had told the Dr. that she was concerned about an area and he did not look because he said that my insurance did not cover a full set of x-rays, and that I should pay for the x-rays, but they couldn't develop them that day anyway because they didn't have time, so I should come back another time. After my insurance change I went to a new dentist who used an x-ray machine that shows results immediately, not after eventually developing them later.

About Hygienist: It's nice to have your teeth cleaned by a hygienist, but the dentist who runs the practice should ALWAYS look him/herself after the hygienist finishes his/her work. Dr. Rothenberg may think that your insurance doesn't make it worth his time to look at your teeth himself, or for whatever other reason- he doesn't always do his own exam after the hygienist finishes the cleaning.
