I saw Dr Cooney in my childhood (age 12-14) when her office was in the Baum building downtown Danville. my overly-trusting mom would let me go to the dentist unattended and trust the "doctors orders". Cooney was not only abusive in the respect that she took advantage of my mothers' trust and was able to perform and bill insurance for unnecessary procedures, but she was also verbally and mentally abusive to me. As she drilled into what I am now convinced were perfectly good molars, she would tell me to "get over it" and there was no way I was feeling anything while I writhed and cried in pain and discomfort meanwhile she would shame me for having such unhealthy teeth. she has ruined me for life in dental care- and I felt compelled to post this recently after an old classmate was asking for advice on dentists for her kids- I am shocked to hear Cooney is still practicing. AS an example - at that age, can you imagine going for a checkup, having 4 fillings done, and 6 months later being told you needed another 6 fillings!?!? now, because of the surface area on some of those teeth she saw as gold mines, I and my dental insurers continue to pay in the firm of replacement fillings, crowns, and root canals
