In February 2012, I needed a root canal for my lower molar with a crown on it. It was hurting to bite down, and it had just started to throb a few days ago, but it wasn't infected. 50 year old Dr. Stancill showed me exactly what needed to be done, using both a large drawing and a large plastic model of a tooth. He made sure my lower jaw was completely numb before starting. He didn't stop talking for more than 2 seconds about what he was doing, what he saw, and what to expect. It was very comforting. I felt no discomfort, except a mild zap when he hit the bottom of one of my 4 canals. I had much less discomfort than any filling or crown that I've had. It was amazing!
This was my first root canal and I didn't shop around for price, even though I had a 20% insurance co-pay, which was $313. I think a 3-canal procedure is $1250, 4-canal is $1450, and drilling a hole in the top of the crown and refilling it was $115.
Only 12% of people have a 4th canal in the molar, and he spent quite awhile searching for it. If he hadn't found it, it would have caused a problem in a year.
Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Stancill for the root canal procedure.
