I found Dr. Butler competent but ill-bred and arrogant for no reason other than his inflated self-conception. Since I changed dentists after my last appointment with him (rescheduled because of his increasing lateness in keeping appointments), I obviously wouldn't recommend him to anyone other than patients who thrive on rudeness and superciliousness.
Before moving to Ohio, I stayed with the same dentist for 20 years, and recommended him to all friends and acquaintances, so I am hardly a demanding patient who requires anything extraordinary from a dentist. But rudimentary breeding is certainly desirable in a professional with whom one has regular (i.e., annual) dealings. Dr. Butler lacks manners, whether chair-side or human-side. And his ego prevents him, I believe, from providing adequate information in layman terms to his patients regarding procedures (I say this as someone with a PhD, high IQ, and experience in dealing with academics in sundry specializations). I would recommend Dr. Butler only to those people who believe that a dentist is such an authority that his judgment precludes all questions and explanations.
About Hygienist: The hygienist in the office (Natalie) is first-rate in all respects, and it was a pleasure to deal with her.
