Back in 1993 I was a college student. I had been to a different dentist 1.5 years earlier for a check up. At that time I had no cavities. Then I changed jobs and no longer had employer provided health care, so I signed up for a stand alone dental insurance plan that I found out about through Lane Community College. Dr. Tustin was the ONLY dentist in my area who would accept that insurance plan, so I went to her for a check up. I went into one room for xrays and then immediately into the exam room where Dr. Tustin came right in. There was no time for her to have looked at the xrays. She immediately started counting cavities and told me that I had 13! I was young (22) and naive and allowed her to drill out all of my molars and fill them over the course of several more visits. She wore a surgical mask at my first visit and told me that she was sick, so she wouldn't be able to do my cleaning. I never did get a cleaning. About 3 years later I saw my old childhood dentist in my home town and he told me that it didn't make sense that I would have needed all of those fillings (I never had any cavities as a child either). I feel like I was deceived. Now, I have to live with a mouth full of fillings with mercury forever.
