My mother went to have routine dental work in December 2011. She seemed to have a cavity filled. Shortly thereafter her face swelled up and she developed a dental abscess. She had to be hospitalized twice to clear up the infection and eventually had to have the tooth pulled by another dentist. The other dentist said that the tooth should have been pulled in the first place.
