Our family dentist referred us to Dr. Schmakel for a consultation for my husband who was high risk and prone to seizures at the time due to an AVM hemorrhage he suffered in 2010. Tom's wisdom tooth was laying sideways; had erupted through his gum and was full of infection. After his initial consult with Dr. Schmakel, he suffered a full-blown seizure which delayed his oral surgery.
Dr. Schmakel was cautious, careful and reassuring to us both. He consulted with our family Dr., our dentist and Tom's neurologist before going forward. I've had scores of encounters through the years w/doctors after having raised four children. Dr. Schmakel was among the rare few whose concern for his patients and their well being continued well after regular office hours. It is routine for him to call from his home or cell and he's more than glad to do that!
Surgery went extremely well that day. Dr.'s bedside manner and overall concern for his patients and their family members was so welcomed and appreciated. His staff and surgical team were as Awesome as he was. We even received a thank you card from the staff at St. Joe's/Pontiac which was a first for us.
Would we recommend Dr. Schmakel? You bet! And highly!:)
