We switched to Dr. Mitchell (and Dr. Taliwal for orthodontics) after going to Park Avenue Pediatric Dentistry for over five years. We got fed up there with the long wait to book appointments (dentist everyone wants is too high profile to be in the office very often), $380 cleaning/x-rays, and referrals to the world's most exorbitant orthodontists). Dr. Mitchell is a good, straightforward dentist who does his job and is there when you need him. His prices aren't cheap either, but they are more reasonable than most in NYC; he gives discounts for siblings--and his orthodontist is wonderful. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Mitchell's this practice!

My daughter loves visiting Dr. Jack Mitchell's office! Every time I tell her she's going, she looks forward to it. In addition to regular checkups over a period of 5 years, she's also had 2 dental fillings and 1 baby molar extraction. All of the procedures have been painfree! Before the checkup, the staff always offers my child sunglasses and a choice of yummy-flavored mouthwash, so she feels like a movie star! During her regular checkups, they use an Xray machine that scans the entire mouth at once, so only 1 Xray is needed. After the checkup or procedure, the office has tons of party favors and toys and my daughter goes away from the dentist with a bagful of goodies, like she's been to a bunch of parties, only without the candy! I don't remember the dentist office being like this when I was younger... We love Dr. Jack Mitchell and recommend him highly and without reservation.

My son has been asking to go back to the dentist. Dr. Mitchell made it a great experience. He also gave my 6 month-old daughter her first toothbrush, and she now loves brushing with her big brother. The hygienist was also great with my kids.

I'm reluctant to post a negative review after a single visit, but our experience was so negative I feel compelled to. We were VERY disappointed by our visit with our three-year-old. The dental assistant was fantastic -- very warm and comforting. But, Dr. Mitchell was very cold and borderline condescending; never even introduced himself. Our son was very anxious and cried a lot, which we know would have been the case regardless of what dentist we visited. But Dr. Mitchell, instead of even trying to comfort him, admonished him instead, and then said to us, "You know he's only doing this for your benefit" as my son laid there screaming. This is not a criticism of Dr. Mitchell's medical aptitude. It's about "bedside manner" and personality. Maybe we caught him on a bad day, but he strikes us as someone who'd be more comfortable treating adults. Plus, the office is less child-friendly compared to other comparable practices we've seen...which wouldn't be an issue, frankly, if the balance of the experience had been positive. Our new pediatric dentist is far more to our liking, and my son is far more comfortable.
