Dr. Cox and his staff are quite friendly and professional. Im sure 95% of his patients are happy with the service but I had a different experience. I had two crowns done on my back teeth (2 yrs back) and my bite is still not right. There was an over-adjustment made on the same day that I received the crowns and after subsequent adjustments (over the next 8 months) the bite was still not right. I had a second opinion on the bite and the new dentist couldnt find a clear problem so I have lived with it ever since. Also, a few months after I got both crowns I started to feel pain in one of the crowns (or the tooth remaining below the crown). That crown eventually had to be re-done by Dr. Cox. All subsequent operations, in both cases, were free of charge but it was still a huge hassle.

Dr. Cox has been my mother's and my family dentist for almost 30 years (since I was a child), and he is at the top of his profession. I was particularly impressed when a friend new to the area went to him for a second opinion when a cheapo dentist said the friend needed multiple teeth removed (which was a surprise to her since her teeth had always been fine back home). Dr. Cox confirmed her suspicions and even helped her report the quack dentist to the review board. Like everything else in the Bay Area, he's not cheap, but he has our absolute trust. He also has all the most modern equipment and knows good doctors for serious stuff. The specialist he sent my mom to for an implant was so experienced he could probably do the procedure blindfolded and with one hand tied behind his back. I don't think Dr. Cox specializes in people with fear of dentists, though-- I don't think he has any of the fancy virtual reality audio/video gizmos I've heard about. He just really knows what he's doing.

Extremely skilled - if you ever have anything serious you need done to your teeth, see Dr. Cox. (If you are just going in for teeth cleaning, anyone in his office will do.) He had to give me an extensive root canal, and even though it took hours, he did a perfect, thorough job and it didn't hurt at all. I was amazed. In fact, he was such a perfectionist that he checked and found one spot that was probably fine, but not quite perfect, and so he took the time to do that one again just to be perfect. Also, the first time he saw me, he took one look in my mouth and could tell that one of my filled teeth would break in about a year (it was an older-type filling, but no problems with the tooth at that time). And it did. I have more confidence in his skill than any other dentist I've ever been to. One of the nice things about his office is that the wall facing the dental chair is floor-to-celing window. There is a garden on the other side of the glass, with many birds and stuff to look at while you're getting your teeth cleaned. The only thing I don't like about his practice is that you have to pay when you visit, and then get reimbursed by your dental insurance. They will not deal with insurance companies
