Bottom line: Dr. Kang tries to scare you into getting unnecessary work done. My sister got a deep cleaning with him because he told her that her gums were unhealthy and she might eventually lose her teeth. When I visited him and heard the same speech (gory gum disease pictures and all), I sensed that he wasn't being honest with me. He also told me I needed more than 15 cavities filled. (Cost= nearly $8000) I'm 21, and have always taken care to brush, floss, rinse consistently. A deep cleaning for someone of my age/hygiene profile is RARE. I felt lied-to as I walked out of his office, so I got a second opinion from a different dentist. ONE CAVITY needed filling and deep cleaning was completely unnecessary. Needless to say, I have switched dentists. As for my sister, she is now being charged $400 more because insurance won't cover the deep cleaning, claiming that there isn't sufficient evidence that it was necessary. Imagine that.
