From my experience, Dr. Dixon has a very skilled staff of dentists and hygenists - they do a good job in the procedures they perform. Since he has a large staff, it's relatively easy to schedule an appointment 1-2 weeks out. In fact, we were very grateful when one of their dentists came in on a Saturday to treat my daughter's chipped tooth after she had a bad fall.
On the cost side, their procedures consistently exceeded what our insurance would cover. I won't hold that against them since we're willing to pay a little extra for good care. However, my daughter was never comfortable with them and developed a fear of the dentist. Part of what contributed her angst is their policy of not allowing parents to accompany their children for exams/procedures. We also heard from one parent that they didn't release their crying kid until he stopped crying. Definitely not good for those children 5 & under.
We were forced to look for another dentist when my 20-month son needed 4 pulpotomies. Since he was so young, they wanted to restrain him by strapping down in a papoose with novacaine and laughing gas. As a parent, I was not going to cultivate a lifelong hatred of dentists in my children. We have found a better dentist.

We had a dental emergency with my 6 year old daughter, requiring 2 extractions, several pediatric root canals, and several fillings after faulty care from another dentist. When we discovered the problem, we were about to leave for a trip to a location with no medical or dental care and Dr. Dixon's office managed to fit us in and do all the work over the course of 3 days before we left . Despite what must have been fairly extreme treatment , my daughter was always happy to go back, and the office was great about checking up on her and reminding us about future appointments-then and for follow up care.
We have yet to deal with the billing of this, so I can't comment on prices or billing situations.
It's true that they do not allow parents to be with the children during treatment, but children are often better behaved in those circumstances- and I've found that to be true in other pediatric dental offices as well.

Fantastic staff, very reassuring to the kids. My son actually loves going there. Dr Dixon and all of his doctors are excellent. I wouldn't take my son anywhere else! The girls that take care of scheduling are also fabulous.

My 2 year old's first visit wasn't at all what we expected here....They had video games, movies, and lots of toys during our visit to entertain....They were kid friendly and very patient...They were very informative on the procedures they would do and very understanding that I had a hiper active 2 yr old!!! They are a little pricey on procedures, but it is well worth the money....To help with the cost they do have free checkups every other one...These free checkups help get your child in the routine of going to the dentist...Super Friendly, Super Fast, Knowledgable and Experienced, and Helpful!!!! What more could you ask for when taking your child to a normally stressful event that turns out to be not so bad!!! Great place and Highly recommend...

I've been taking all four of my children here for about eight years now. They have loved it and so have I. The only draw back is the commute from Mira Mesa which has become more and more difficult over the years. The care is GREAT!! but you pay a great price for it, because they don't take dental insurance plans you pay the difference. Now that my children are older I may move them to a new dentist because now I'm commutting from Point Loma and the traffic is horrendous.
The people are friendly and the procedures have basically all gone well. They will bill your insurance although you have to pay all of your portion of the bill up front. Parents are not allowed to accompany the child during any portion of the visit. Some parents have a real problem with this rule. Billing has usually gone smoothly although I've been incorrectly billed about 3-4 times and had to prove that my child was not seen nor had the work done that I was charged for.
The hygenist have all been wonderful and so have the dentist and front desk people overall. Out of eight years I've only been treated rudely once by a desk person who later apologized.

Wonderful! The entire Staff makes the the kids feel comfortable. My kids think it's so much fun to play and watch videos. Very Nice!

Great pediatric dentist. It's where the kid's go! Lot's of things to keep kids occupied while waiting. Vidio games, movies, toys. They definitely attempt to make the experience as easy as possible.
