I would not recommend this dentist. I saw him for a sudden crack in a tooth. I was in a lot of pain. He did not prescribe antibiotics or give a me something for the pain. I was told that his next appointment was in 7 days. I immediately made an appointment to see a specialist (out of pocket) who prescribed a course of antibiotics to get the infection cleared up. My insurance immediately transferred me to another dentist that saw me immediately and referred me to the root canal specialists. I know that my heart and health was put at risk because Dr. Carlo. I would advise all to find a more astute dentist. There are many excellent dentists in San Diego and Dr. Carlo is not one of them.

I was very disappointed with his service, he seemed like he was to busy to sit and discuss my teeth, and what needs to be done and his receptionist is very rude.

Cost is reasonable. Front desk is ok, but at first can seem a little abrupt.
About Hygienist: Hygienist says he's a dentist too. He is very gentle and does a good job.

I recommend Dr. Carlo to everyone who seeks good, old fashioned dentistry. No high tech, showy expensive office. No pushy sells on pricey veneers and cosmetics, he just takes care of my teeth with what needs to get done. Get's you right in, takes care of business.
EXCELLENT hygenist. This doctor is absolutely the most thorough and gentle technician I've ever seen. Because of this you have to book your cleanings 6 mos. out. I just book my next when I finish up a cleaning. HIS WORK IS WORTH IT!
DON'T LET THE RECEPTIONISTS SCARE YOU OFF! The front desk girls are a bit brusk, but if you get to know them a bit, they do smile! I think they must do an excellent job of running Dr. Carlo's office or they wouldn't be there.
They don't do reminder calls and there is a charge for missed appointments (24 hour notice) and they stick to it. But, I like the fact that you get in quickly when you are there. I can usually get an appointment to see Dr. Carlo within a reasonable amount of time.

I've been going to this office for over 4 years simply because it was on my insurance plan. I feel my actual dental care was fine - no complaints and they even got me in as an emergency visit at one point, although I had to pay extra for that. However, it is nearly impossible to get a routine visit that isn't 3-6 months in the future. I had to reschedule a cleaning last year and it took 6 months to get a new appointment, which is when my next one was scheduled anyway, so I completely missed a cleaning and it was a year between appointments. I'm not really sure why the front office staff is so gruff and why the Doctor puts up with it, but it certainly wasn't my favorite reason for going there. The dental hygenist is probably the best thing going at that place - very friendly, encouraging, helpful. Not sure how he was ever hired there, but he's worth it.
