Pre-authorized dental coverage not properly processed. My account was sent in for collection without notice. I only found out about this "outstanding" bill only during my annual audit of credit reports. When I called back, the office is unable to locate the information and insists they have mailed notices of unpaid account though they are no longer able to locate the information (probably because they "sold" it to some collection agency.) Unbelievable.... now I have to spend hours disputing the negative credit notation.

Dr. Alem treats our six year old son. Wonderful experience. Professional, efficient, takes time to explain all procedures to parents and child in an accessible manner. Highly recommend him.

After 5 years of terrible dentists in NYC, I can't believe I found such a good one on my first try here in DC. I'll be staying with this dentist as long as I can.
She has amazing bedside manner -- she explains everything in detail, shows you the x-rays and additional pictures she takes using a camera. She talked me out of having a filling redone that had been bothering me and explained in detail why it had been bothering me and how it would naturally fix itself.
My last dentist in NYC had taken the opposite approach -- he tried to talk me into several thousands of dollars of dental work that no other dentist had ever suggested and which this dentist did not recommend. Basically, she seemed very concerned that I received the best care and not at all concerned about getting me to agree to unnecessary work.
The cleaning was extremely thorough. The offices were very nice and well lit with up to date equipment and extra perks -- (i.e. the cameras for additional pictures in the mouth and a chair with a back massaging mechanism).
Highly recommended.
I'm not sure of all the insurance she takes -- oddly she wasn't listed on the Metlife website though she takes them, and these are the insurance companies that she's listed as taking on Zocdoc :

Dr. Alem is fantastic. Very professional and knows how to cater to dental sissies like me. Completely recommended.
About Hygienist: Had a good cleaning.

Dr Alem is a calm, thorough, no-nonsense dentist, who takes her patients' concerns seriously, which is what I love about her. I am the type who doesn't like overly chatty dentists, especially when I have picks and tubes poking out of my mouth, so if that's what you're looking for, Dr. Alem isn't for you. But if you want a competent and reassuring one, Dr. Alem is great! I also have to mention Jasmine, the admin/reception assistant, who is always smiling, helpful and overall just superb!

Dr Alem did my first root canal and was very gentle and explained everything. I recommend her for people who are nervous about dentists

Dr. Alem is wonderful!!! She is patient and explains all procedures before treatment is done. The staff is always pleasant and responsive when there is assists needed. Highly recommend her for great patients.
About Hygienist: The Hygienist is amazing!!! She shows you what a cleaning is suppose to be, not what most people receive. She gives exceptional service and has a beautiful personality.

Expensive. Easy to get in and friendly, but the office is empty and that leads one to worry. I have had trouble with the basic procedures I have had done there.

While i have no particual comment on Dr. Alem's work, her billing methods and lack of transparency have forced me to discontinue getting dental services from her. I would say that such dishonnest billing practices give the profession a bad name. My advise if you do decide to get her services is to ASK as many questions as possible and get written recommendation. Good luck.
