AVOID THIS DENTIST BY ALL MEANS (one star because I cannot give 0)
I went to Dr. Hoang's office in May 2011 for a standard cleaning. During my routine exam, Hoang informed me that I had a severe infection that had spread from one of my teeth to my jawbone. He also claimed that I had terrible decay under previous fillings, and needed two canals, and he also listed a number of other problems. I protested that I felt no pain and that I found this hard to believe. He insisted that I needed a panoramic x-ray to determine the extent of the infections/ probelms, and he and others in the offfice reassured me that my insurance would cover this particular x-ray.
When I was about to the leave the office, I learned that I had to pay close to $1000.00 and that they would not accept credit cards; I basically could not leave until they automatically withdrew this money from my account.
I went for a second opinion, and the dentist was shocked with this diagnosis, since my teeth were in perfect condition. To make matters worse, my insurance would not cover the panoramic x-ray since I did not need one.
I ended up taking Dr. Hoang to small claims court, and I unfortunately, learned that Dr. Hoang and company are no strangers to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. As this link below illustrates, sever patients have taken Dr. Hoang to court for his dishonesty, repeated misleading fo patients, and malpractice.

I fortunately won my case, but to this day Dr. Hoang has refused to reimburse me and fulfil the judgement.
This man is very unprofessional and knows how to work the system. Shortly, after our trial started, he promoted his receptionists to heads of finance and they appeared in court and lied through their teeth.
SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND FIND YOURSELF AN HONEST DENTIST.

I had 3 root canals within two weeks. One root canal failed so it had to be extracted. He attempted to extract the tooth in one piece, despite his knowledge of my extra root in that tooth and curved roots. After he roughly pried side to side, tearing my gums and making it impossible to suture, he decided to extract the molar in pieces. When the novacaine wore off he refused to treat my pain, which was increasing to be exponentially worse than before treatment. He referred me to an oral surgeon who immediately identified the pain originating at the tooth adjacent to the extracted tooth. Rex chipped the tooth and made the tooth loose so it had to be extracted as well. The second extraction was done on a tooth that the treatment plan he handed me said the tooth only needed 2 surface fillings. It's been over a week and I can still feel my jaw through the open wound. I've had 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed, 2 other teeth removed, a bone graft and an implant and the pain has never been this intense for so long. I'm afraid he damaged my jawbone or caused damage to my sinus since the pain is going up through my face and my sinus cavity hurts, not to mention the earaches. I would never recommend this "doctor" to anyone, even my enemies.

Nice office comes with big money. He is way over priced and somewhat unethical in treatment. I had a cavity and was told that it could not be filled with regular material and need a porcelain filling $1000, fine, then I get toothache and make an appointment to come back in and he suggested a root canal $1500 root canal! Fine, then I had to protect my $2500 tooth with a $1500 crown, fine, but then when I had to visit a specialist to redo my root canal for $1800, I about had it. Never coming back to that dentist!

Dr. Hoang is by far one of the best dentists I have ever had. I have an extreme phobia of dentist to the point where I will only have procedures is I can have some sort of sedation. The staff is very friendly and the office reminds you of a spa which makes it even more comfortable. I had a root canal done as well as an extraction. Dr Hoang was VERY gentle and explained what he was doing as he was doing it. I was completely numbed and didn't feel no pain at all! He even helped me start a treatment plan. I was very pleased with the service provided. Although I am still a little fearful, Dr. Hoang makes it easier.

Dr. Hoang is a great dentist, he really takes time out for his patients to listen to them and tries to provide a comfortable experience. Great staff, hours & service! Can be a bit pricey since they don't contract w/ any insurance companies.

Dr. Rex Hoang is the worst dentist ever! His staff is mediocre and his care for patients just awful. As a first-time visitor, I felt as though I was being ushered in and out, like it was dentistry on wheels. He let me leave his office in intense pain and did not fix any of my teeth problems. In actuality, he made them worse! I came in with 3 impacted wisdom teeth and he did nothing for me at all! I recieved no follow-up call, nor did I recieve anything by email or mail asking me to come back for a follow-up. He did not give me my x-ray's and according to his Washington Express advertisement, he did not follow through on his promise. I would not recommend his office or services to anyone for any reason! I wouldn't wish this dentist on my worse enemy!

He has been our family's dentist for many years, we returned to him after all our overseas posts. It was so nice to come back to a familiar doc. His staff are great. I am not at all surprised by the growth and success of his practice. I would definitely recommend him as a kind, gentle and humorous dentist.

Dr. Hoang's website boasts a new patient special which includes a free complimentary consultation and an exam, x-rays, and cleaning for only $99.00. During my visit I provided my insurance information and to my surprise his office billed my insurance for $310.00 for the exam, cleaning, and x-rays. Their explanation for the excess charges was that since I provided my insurance information they were obligated to charge me the full amount of the services. If I paid for services in the office the cost would have been $99.00. That would have been fine if only they had explained that to me first. Given the choice I would have paid for the services out of my pocket. Not to mention the fact that the doctor himself performed the cleaning that took all of 15 minutes. I had already decided not to use his services going forward but was outraged to find out his billing practices.
To add insult to injury his office was not responsive to my concerns. When I initially expressed my concerns they agreed to a refund once they received payment from my insurance company and when they received the payment they decided they would not issue a refund.
