I am a former patient.I needed ALL my teeth fixed.I knew it would be a very expensive and stressful.I needed periodontal treatment.I went to an excellent periodontist.I had surgery including two extractions and one gingival graft. My periodontist told me that a good dentist allways checks your teeth and gums every time you visit.On9/7/05 I paid $13,908.60 for my upper teeth.On3/14/06 I paid $10,615.50 for my lower teeth.Every 3 months I went back for cleaning Dr.Boales rarely looked at them.I knew I had that past periodontal problem to watch out for.On 2/7/12 I went in for my cleaning. My hygienist noticed my gums needed attention. They referred me to a new periodontist.I liked my old guy,so I went there instead.On3/20/12 I found out that I needed more then a routine touch-up and cleaning. My gums needed some serious treatment that could have been prevented. Now I am looking forward to some new expensive gum repairs.I don't trust Dr.Boales.There wasn't any more MONEY in it for him.

What an awful dentist with an equally awful and unprofessional support staff. Dr. Boales charges more than any other dentist in North Florida (rates are comparable to Miami though) and doesn't even perform any of his own work - anything more than a basic filling or extraction and you will be shipped off to another dentist nearby. The support staff is shockingly unorganized and unprofessional, I've never seen a group of women be so openly "catty" to both the customers and to each other (in front of the customers). There are some great dentists in Jacksonville, and no real reason to stick with this one. Avoid.

I was told that I had the best insurance they had seen and then Owen Boales began making major recommendations for significant dental treatment. I've seen a dentist every 6 months of my life and have great teeth. However, Owen Boales recommended that I have any and all filings replaced. I opted to have a couple replaced and the procedure was very painful. I had to return 3 additional times for corrections to these two fillings. After they charged a large amount to my insurance company and were paid, they decided they would like additional money from me (1 year after the procedure). It is clear they are not interested in the patient or their comfort level but the money they can receive. I would not recommend.

Dr. Boales is know for trying to sell you cosmetic dentistry that you do not need. His approach to general denistry is very rough. I had to have a tooth extracted and he was very rough with me in the process of pulling it. He then overcharged me and claimed that he did dental surgery and left me with a large bill after my insurance paid him. I quit going here and found a better dentist around the corner.

It starts off with I have a cracked tooth and lots of pain. I make an appointment to see Boales. I go in and he tells me I need a root canal, but hes doesn't do them. He recomends and makes an appointment for me with his Endodontist. I have to wait a week to see him, still in tons of pain. I see him and he tells me the tooth is cracked down to the root and that he cannot do a root canal. The tooth must be extracted, he said it would be a simple extraction, but that he doesn't do that. I am then required to pay him my $50 co-pay just for a 5 minute conversation. So, i drive over to Dr. Boales' office, he is very busy and doesn't want to talk to me. His daugher or grand-daughter, can't remember which tells me I can see him in 2 weeks. I almost flipped out. I am in serious pain, been jacked around for a week now, cost me an extra $50 already. I said no, I am not leaving until he pulls this tooth, so he finally says he can squeeze me in at 5 PM. When he sees me he is pissed off, doesn't say a word to me, is rough with the injections and almost pulls my head off when he pulls the tooth, which came out in2 pieces because it was cracked. He then bills the insurance for a oral surgery type of extraction to get me back.

Quality is ok but office staff misrepresented them as network providers when in fact they are not. Is bad enough to have a lot of dental work done only to then find out that the office was wrong but they still want you to pay for what they think you owe them. In my case that is more than $300. Even after explaining to them in writing what they said and when, the office still insists we owe them despite their misrepresentation and now they sent us to collection agency.
Buyer beware!

I recently visited Dr. Boales office and found everyone to be extremely kind, compassionate and concerned. Facing an extensive amount of future dental work and suffering extreme anxiety about dentists, I found Dr. Boales to be very comforting and confident. His dental assistant, Laurie, was very kind and calming as well. The front desk was extremely efficient and helpful regarding my primary and secondary insurance. I will definitely go back.
