Read Reviews for Dr. Lawrence Kotler
My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Kotler because of my sever anxiety with serious dental work.
I've had some very unpleasant dental experiences.
However, Dr. Kotler was very informative, fast and efficient. Hopefully, I will not need another root
canal, but if I do, I will absolutely go back to see Dr. Kotler.

Had root canal on a molar done, with a discount due to insurance. He seems competent.
About Front Desk: Staff was helpful when I called with a question, afterwards.

I was referred to Dr. Kotler in 2001 by another endodontic dentist after several attempts at a root canal. He was referred highly by another endodontic dentist (who could not determine what was happening) as the expert of the experts. Well, to my surprise, he had technology (an x-ray machine that put out 1/10th the energy of a standard x-ray and displayed it on a computer screen to see what was going on). Wow, he immediately saw that there was another canal going across the tooth that needed to get fixed. The fix immediately eliminated the weeks of pain and multiple visits to the other endodontic dentist
I keep on going back to him because of his skills and technology - a high resolution x-ray machine AND an entire mouth x-ray machine – all computerized that shows every canal, nerve and everything else.
He has integrity, honesty, frankness, and is very caring. Besides being an expert, his very impressive technology makes him a very clear choice if you want it done right. I also believe he is affordable, and yes, he will tell you and show you exactly what is going on. In my case he can and does look at past views of teeth and notes any differences too. He is excellent in what he does.

After looking at my 2 x-ray, Dr. Lawrence Kotler told me "your root canal is not fixable." I asked him why, he said "it's better off to extract your tooth than have the root canal fixed." I asked him if he could explain more. He got mad and slammed the office door behind him. The whole process lasted less than 2 minutes. I was totally confused and stunned!
He added later that he couldn't communicate with me because I don't have medical background and he doesn't speak Chinese (I am a Chinese). He then said a few medical jargon and said "See? You won't understand!"
He also treats his staff very rudely. He complained to one nurse that the office was too noisy. He asked his secretary to change a misspelt name with angry.
As a doctor, Dr. Kotler lacks of the basic skill to communicate with patients, the courtesy of being patient. As a human being, he lacks of decency to respect others. I will never recommend Dr. Lawrence Kotler to any one.

Dr. Kotler provided the best dental care I have ever received. He explained every procedure and assured me that he would manage any pain associated with my root canal. I felt absolutely no pain. I need a lot of dental work which had produced a great deal of anxiety for me. Dr. Kotler erased my fears by spending time with me to clearly explain my treatment plan. I would recommend him very highly.

Dr. Kotler is a former army doctor. He was supposed to make a root canal procedure, instead he was extremely rude, impatient , yelled at me ( a patient!) and I still wonder why I never filed a complaint about the whole accident to the Virginia Board of Dentistry ( that happened in 2007).The office staff was unfriendly and not helpful at all, overall I would not recommend this dentist to anyone.

I had to have a root canal and was referred to Dr. Kotler by my regular dentist. He saw me for a consult the same day I called and was able to fit me in two days later. He's very professional and told me up front what would happen. He did a great job and I am now pain free. I would definitely recommend him to anyone for this type of work!
The facilities are shabby and outdated but his equipment is all modern and state of the art ,so don't let the office environment scare you away.

I went to Dr. Kotler for my first ever root canal. He was able to get the tooth numbed up quickly and the procedure was extremely smooth. I felt no pain whatsoever, and the whole thing took well under an hour. His office staff were efficient and pleasant, and I was able to get appointments for both the initial evaluation and the therapy itself all in the same week, after another specialist said their office would need 3 weeks before they could get me in. The only downside is that their office is in a somewhat run-down medical building with limited parking, which can make one apprehensive at first, but the office itself is very pleasant, with comfortable couches and lots of magazines to choose from.

This is from a while ago, but I was thinking about Dr. Kotler due to problems I'm having with a root canal from another dentist, and wishing I had seen Kotler for it. Oh well. And now I come on this site and see there aren't any reviews for him.
In any case he did an excellent job on a front upper incisor under urgent care circumstances, charging less than general dentists in the area and doing a better job. Almost 12 years later, the root canal is still as good as new, with absolutely no sensitivity. In contrast the one I had done at a general dentist a year later -- in which the dentist MISSED one of the channels and I had to go back to a specialist endodontist to fix (unfortunately I had moved away and couldn't use Dr. Kotler) -- is showing sensitivity that I hope like heck is confined to the gum. If it's in the tooth it will be hugely expensive to deal with as it is a rear tooth with a gold crown.
I highly recommend Dr. Kotler -- and just in general I would absolutely have root canal work done at a specialist and not by a general dentist under any circumstances.
