Read Reviews for Dr. Joshua Paynich
While I believe that Dr. Paynich is knowledgeable, he is also incredibly judgmental. Despite the fact that he probably earns a substantial amount of money treating children with Medicaid, he seems to be incapable of ridding himself of that air of superiority that he wears like a crown.
The most glaring instance of this occurred when my child was young and had a broken tooth. After Paynich capped the tooth he came out to meet me in the waiting room. I asked him if this was common in kids my child’s age, to which he replied, “Yes, in certain socio-economic settings we see this quite often.” When I made it clear that I am educated and that I come from a family of educators, he tried to gloss over what he said as though I had been the one to misunderstand. It was clear he didn’t think I would get the implication. I had only spoken to him about my child’s teeth, so we had little opportunity to discuss quantum physics or chaos theory. To be sure, he made a judgement based on the state funded health insurance my child received, and the fact that I am a single parent.
On other visits he mentioned that my child’s cavities are most likely a result of improper eating habits, which is “often the case with children from single parent households.”
If there was another pediatric dentist accepting new patients in this area, I would have left his practice several times over. Unfortunately when I have called the other pediatric dentist, they are not accepting new patients. Probably because they’re too busy taking care of children who might otherwise have gone to “Dr. Josh” if he wasn’t such a pompous ass. I hope he never has to live as a single parent, struggling to make ends meet, because I am sure he would break from the pressure.
A little advice for “Dr. Josh,” he might want to stop biting the hands that feed him. One day another pediatric dentist will come to Asheville, and all of the kids suffering from “improper eating habits,” due to the fact that they’re children of single parents, living in poor “socio-economic situations”, won’t be coming around to disgust him anymore.

I have recently taken my son to Dr. Paynich in Asheville. Please disregard the ratings on anything other than customer service for this review. Dr. Paynich was very kind and courteous with my 3 year old. It's the desk staff I find problem with. My child was scheduled a procedure on a date inconvenient for my family. I called the day I received the letter and left a message of this. Almost 2 weeks passed with no word from the office and the original date approaching. I called for information and the desk clerk tried to put blame on me! He was rude and said their machines kept recordings that they checked regularly, he had even called my child's primary care (who i did not cancel with, his date was sufficient) and tried to use that as proof I had not called them! I like the doctor but the staff needs a lesson in customer service and friendliness!
