My family switched to Dr. Chang recently as her office is close to our house. My husband and I saw her with no problems and her secretary and hygienists were great, but there was a big problem when it came to our children. One of my daughters has some dental anxiety issues and we talked to the secretary who scheduled her an appropriate hygienist, but when Dr. Chang was supposed to follow up and do a procedure. Things were uncomfortably bad. She was stressed, impatient, and nervous. Didn't explain the instruments or procedures ahead of time and the fear in my daughter escalated to an uncomfortable point. She has a short manner and is not very patient in speaking with children. I would not recommend her to parents or anyone with dental anxiety.
About Hygienist: Hygienists were all nice and far better at bedside manner than Dr. Chang.

I have my regular checkups, cleaning, and cavities filled with May. I was first impressed how she and the team take responsibility for the health of my teeth! They keep track of their health and suggest ways to keep them healthier. Her work is professional, yet gentle. She keeps up with the latest technology and always offers it as an option! My whole family enjoys her great work.
About Hygienist: Brooke does a fantastic job keeping my teeth clean and gently encouraging me to keep up with brushing and flossing. I also look forward to the visits and great feeling teeth.

Exceptionally conscientious. Obviously places customer needs over other considerations. Did a good job installing 2 needed crowns. Returned 1 crown for rework for imperfect fit. Consumer would have never been aware of fit discrepancy.
Highly recommend for her integrity, diligence.

My experience with Dr. Change was less than ideal. While her front desk staff were always friendly, cheerful and efficient, I was concerned by Dr. Chang's chair-side behavior. I went in for long-deferred dental work, and while I was in the chair under anesthesia having 2 teeth filled, the doctor began strongly encouraging me to have veneers put on my 2 top front teeth "while I was there." I wasn't in any condition to discuss insurance coverage, etc., and we had never discussed veneers or their like before this. I agreed, though I felt a bit pressured. Dr. Change proceeded to finish the fillings and do the veneers. As she was doing the veneers, a friend from the retail shop downstairs stopped by, and they proceeded to have a lengthy discussion of the friend's recent vacation, what they were doing for the weekend, etc. As the dr. was curing the veneers with UV light, she got a phone call, and asked the friend to hold the light on my teeth while she left the room to take the call. After what seemed like a very long time, she returned and thanked her friend, and completed the procedure. I was very taken aback by this apparent lapse in professionalism (still am!) and never returned to her office.

I have lived in Portland for 34 years and found May about 5 years ago. My teeth were not in great shape and we set up a treatment plan. We took care of several things a few crowns, including one on the front tooth. May is a very skilled dentist that takes great care to get you the best treatment while keeping you comfortable.
I would like to add that the dental office has great people from the the receptionist who will always happily call you to remind you about your appointment to the hygenists who take a sincere concern about your teeth and their health, all are very professional and courteous.
All of this great service comes at a price. May is not a cheap dentist and I believe only works 3 days a week. With that there are are occasions where you will need to pay a bit extra. For instance her rate for cleanings is a bit above the Blue Cross reimbursement rate so I have to pay $12.00 for each cleaning. Also, with her limited schedule you will need to schedule far in advance for an appointment and if you need to cancel it can be challenging to reschedule.
Even with all that it has been a pleasure to patronize such a thoughtful and professional dental office. If you need a dentist, this is your place.

i've been to many dentists and i really think May Chang and her facilities and staff are one of the best!
they really think of the patient, what people want, do their best work every time, and over all is a good comunity.
