Read Reviews for Dr. Alan Forfar
It was a very, very terrible experience. I don't want to go to the specifics. The other low ratings provided by other patients speak for itself. I agree 100 percent on their complaints. Go to another oral surgeon.
About Front Desk: There were 2 front desk staff, one was nice and polite, the other was rude and nasty.

Do NOT go to this Dentist/Oral Surgeon’s office!!! I found them on the MetLife Preferred Dentist Program website. I made an appointment to have 1 wisdom tooth extracted. I was promised by the office staff that they were in the MetLife PDP network & I would get in-network “contract” rates. Instead, I paid out-of-pocket 20% of full/out-of-network rates & they received 80% of full/out-of-network rates from MetLife. It turns out that Dr. Patrick Carroll, who extracted my tooth, was not yet credentialed, was an associate contractor, & did not qualify for being considered “in-network.” The office staff did not disclose this to me & had promised me in-network rates before I had my tooth extracted. MetLife later refused to accept a refund (for in-network rates) from the office because Dr. Carroll was not in the PDP network at the time of my extraction. The office did refund my out-of-pocket 20% payment, but now my annual dental insurance allowance has been exceeded & I will be responsible for all of any further dental work this year. Check out the website HealthGrades.com—Dr. Patrick Carroll caused a patient’s death, was sanctioned, his licenses were suspended for 12 months, & he was on probation for 2 years. My wisdom tooth extraction did not go well--it was extremely violent, I had lots of soreness, shooting pain, significant swelling with a big lump in my cheek, swollen/tender glands under my jaw, a sore throat, chills, headache, pain in my ear, & I ended up having a serious infection in my gums & cheek. I had 2 follow-up appointments with Carroll (at the first appointment, Carroll said I looked fine even though I knew I wasn’t) & a total of 4 repair/follow-up appointments with Dr. Alan Forfar. Neither Carroll nor Forfar put on latex gloves before examining me. Forfar had to completely cut me open again (he called it “starting from scratch”) to clean out my infection. It was like having to have my tooth extracted again. Forfar had the bedside manner of Dr. Kavorkian. Forfar once spilled antibiotic solution on his shirt while preparing a pack, became furious, & was more concerned about his shirt stain than my pain & swelling. He was always very dismissive & short with me, spent very little time with me (in & out), rude, rolled his eyes at me several times, unconcerned about my factual/descriptive complaints of swelling in my jaw & pain in gums & nearby teeth, chastised me for having some food stuck in my pit once, & eventually pawned me off on my other dentist (he actually called my dentist & made an appointment for me that same day) because he didn’t want to be bothered with me anymore. Again, stay away from Dr. Forfar & Carroll—I’ll never go there again; nightmare experience both physically & financially!!!

I went in to have a consultation to get my wisdom teeth removed. Although I had two types of insurance to cover the cost of the procedure, they wanted me to put $800 down that day and for me to have my wisdom teeth removed after the consultation. He was extremely rude when I asked him questions regarding the surgery. They then made me pay the $160 upfront for my xray and consult when they KNEW that Humana dental was going to pay the total cost. The office staff then lied to me saying I would be reimbursed by my insurance company (when in reality my insurance company reimbursed them). It then took nearly TWO MONTHS and an absurd amount of calls to their office to finally get my money back. This office is completely unprofessionally and I would recommend going to another doctor in the area.

I saw Forfar for an infected molar after failed root canal. He performed the procedure, but I still had pain. I complained for months, and he insisted there was no further infection. Finally I went to another doctor, who found the infection worse than ever. I lost the tooth, and in my opinion thanks to Forfar's ego I now have permanent nerve damage and have been in pain for more than 3 years now. Setting aside this terrible outcome, Forfar is one of the biggest jerks I have ever met. He is cold and uncaring and also one of the most condescending individuals you may every meet.

Dr. Forfar has no bedside manner, brags about his sons & his so-called expertise of 20 years. Do yourself a favor and go to someone else. He took our insurance, otherwise I wouldn't have gone here. My child suffered vomiting, nausea, pain & swelling for a month! He over medicates to the point where the patient can't even hold his/her head up! No regard for the patient. DON'T GO HERE!
About Front Desk: Nice staff, but not very knowledgable. They assured me my child would be "fine" in a few days, would not administer anti-nausea medication & didn't seem to know what they were doing. Wish I had never gone here!

I was lucky. I only went to him for a consultation. It's more than 2.5 months and I'm still waiting for repayment of the $160 I put up front. He billed me and then he billed MetLife. He's unethical. Additionally, he pads the procedure. The first red flag was that he does the procedure in backwards sequence from other oral surgeons ;then he pads the bill by adding another procedure. This was the first red flag. The second was when they told me that I would have to put up $1700, "then we'll pay you back whatever is left over from the contracted cost. But if there's any other cost, you can pay us at the second procedure." What???? Beware. None of this is ethical.

Removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth. The doctor is a pervert, terrible service... the staff had a horrible attitude. Several bone fragments were left in and around the areas of the removed teeth. I have a dentist appointment this week to check the terrible pain in my lower right area. At least half of the tooth is still in place, poking and stabbing my mouth. Would never recommend!!! He should lose his license.
