When I was 15 Dr. Blalock suggested that I get an implant to replace a tooth that had never grown in, even though my teeth had naturally filled in the place of the missing tooth and no one was the wiser. My parents took his word on how beneficial the surgery would be, because he is, after all, an expert. Eight years and thousands of dollars later, I immensely regret listening to his suggestion. The crown of my implant comes off at least twice a year, resulting in so much wasted time and money to find dentists who will re-cement it on.
I believe that Dr. Blalock misused his expertise and duped my lower-middle class parents into purchasing an entirely unwarranted dental surgery. My parents trusted this man, sent me and and my two older sisters to get braces from him, and he still took advantage of my family by suggesting that I get the surgery.
Be wary of medical experts who misuse their expertise and take advantage of your ignorance.
