The dentist did not provide details on treatment alternatives for sedation, nor details of what she would receive. (Required under informed consent laws)
Due to this lack of information, I asked what my daughter would receive and was given improper information. I was swayed against general anesthesia as "too expensive" yet their sedation medication ultimately meant 2 days of dental work, 2 procedures, and 2 charges for sedation ($200 each) whearas the general anesthesia would have been coverered under insurance 80%. My daughter suffered a potentially life threatening complication from the medication, requiring 911 assistance. When I asked what happened, the doctor stated she gave her a different medication than the staff had disclosed, and the order from the pharmacy indicates she received an adult dose, coupled with a larger than reccomended dose of another medication that is known to cause life threatening interactions with the first. When I looked at the sedation log, they never even indicated these medications were given(violates state law) so one month later I still am not sure what my daughter got that resulted in the problem, and the dentist will not respond to my correspondence, only that they "provided appropriate care"
